I am getting ready to purchase 22 acres and need a tractor that would mainly function as a mower. I am looking at a BX2200 and a JD 2210. Where should I be price wise? I have gotten two dealers to quote me $8,600 for the 2200 then another $1,600 for a 60" MMM. The price has been about $12,000 complete for the 2210 in the same configuration. Any suggestions regarding price and machine would be greatly appreciated.

The BX Kubota uses a highly reliable hydraulic PTO clutch system like in the big farm tractors which has been far more reliable then electric PTO clutches have. Anyway you look at it I would be looking at a larger tractor just thinking about the acreage but not knowing your plans. ....

Art may be right about the PTO clutch in theory, but very few people here seem to complain about electric PTO clutch problems. Art, do you have any numbers? I think there are bigger issues to worry about, like the quality of the dealer and how the tractor fits you. And, of course, the deal you get. ....

If you are just going to be mowing with it you might want to consider going with a Kubota ZD28 with a 72" deck. But if you have other plans I would definitely go with some thing bigger. I would literally take days to mow 22 acres with a 60" deck. More details are needed about land use etc. ....

Sorry, about the confusing message. I will only be mowing about 3-4 acres. The remaining property is wooded. So I will be using the tractor for other purposes as well as mowing. I was concerned that there might be a significant quality differnce between the JD and the Kubota. Assuming that the price is close, is there a reason to pick one over the other? I had a dealer quote me 9,800 for the JD yesterday and another 1,675 for a 62" MMM. ....

You'll be happy with the BX. Definately the best bang for the buck. Just make sure you stick to implements designed specifically for sub-CUTs. The B-series may give you a little more versatility with regard to implements, depending on your specific needs outside of mowing. ....
